ABOUT ABOUT

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th - 8:00 pm

Up from L.A., guitarist G.E. Stinson (Shadowfax) and bassist Steuart Liebig (Les McCann, Julius Hemphill) team up with the Bay Area's Phillip Greenlief (saxophone) to create some of the wildest and best improvisational Jazz ever heard in these here parts.  Effects pedals cover the stage, fortifying the textures and colors of sound, along with laptop assistance.  If you've never seen this kind of music before, one can only explain it as an oil painting being painted at the same time by three artists - what would otherwise be a cacophony in untrained hands becomes an incredible combination of vibrant energy and focus that completes a picture like no other.  Those who have seen them here at Dana Street came away with one of two reactions....either like those in the majority, "Wow!  That was pretty cool!  I didn't expect that!" or the few who stated, "Well, I can't say that I would need to see something like that again, but I'm really glad I did...that was different, in a good way."  Either way, these guys put on a show that you will not see elsewhere unless you dabble in the likes of a Nels Cline or others of that ilk.  This isn't something you get to see everyday in the Bay Area music scene.  Worth checking out this Saturday...and at only a $10 suggested admission price, not to be missed.  Seems true artists would rather fill the place than try to make money at an inflated price.  Go figure.  If you're feeling guilty, buy a CD after the show.

Tickets should be available at the cafe as walk-up.  Show starts at 8:00 pm.
